A magical trip to Marrakech

ree

At the end of May, I hit pause on life and escaped to Marrakech with three of my closest friends - and what a feast for the senses it was! The vibrant colours, the intoxicating energy and the incredible food all came together to create pure magic.

Marrakech has become a hot spot lately, especially within the creative community. Honestly, it’s not hard to see why. I’m already bursting with ideas for a travel-inspired collection after this unforgettable adventure.

We visited Marrakech at the end of May, and the weather was absolutely perfect at around 25°C - ideal for exploring the souks (traditional markets) and sightseeing. We stayed for three nights, flying from Bristol, which was just a quick 3.5-hour flight to a place that truly felt like another world.

If you’re planning a trip, here are a few of my top recommendations...

Stay in a riad

Our home base was a charming traditional riad called Riad Matham, nestled right inside the medina. Our host was fantastic, helping us navigate the city, booking the perfect excursions and making sure we felt completely looked after. Despite its central location, the riad was peaceful and a perfect retreat just steps away from the bustling souks. You can book direct or through booking.com.

Visit Le Jardin Marjorelle

One highlight was visiting Le Jardin Marjorelle, just outside the Medina walls but still within walking distance. This lush, colourful oasis, filled with stunning plants and housing the Yves Saint Laurent Museum, was the perfect shady escape. I would book ahead of your trip as it does get busy.

Check out the stunning restaurants and rooftop bars

I was also pleasantly surprised by how amazing and affordable the food was! We dined at so many beautiful restaurants and rooftop bars, indulging in delicious local cuisine. Our faves were Le Slimana and L'Mida. Again some of the more popular ones you will need to book ahead for, especially if you want to sit in the rooftop areas.

Take a hot air balloon ride

ree

The absolute standout experience for me was a hot air balloon ride at sunrise over the Atlas Mountains. It was totally worth the 4 am wake-up call. It was an unforgettable adventure that included the flight, coffee, breakfast and transfers, all for 100 euros. If you visit Marrakech, this is a must-do.

On our last day, after checking out at 10 am, we had an evening flight and decided to spend the day relaxing by the pool at the Beldi Country Club. For just 30 euros, we paid to use the facilities and enjoyed a delicious three-course meal. It was the perfect way to unwind, and just 20 minutes from the airport.

Marrakech is such a special place where you can experience a totally different way of life. Have you been? I’d love to hear your highlights!
