The creative tools I use to bring my art to life

As an artist, my creative journey always begins the same way: with a trusty sketchbook and pencil. There’s just something about sketching on paper that feels irreplaceable. The process of translating raw, unrefined ideas onto the page brings a sense of authenticity that digital tools just can’t replicate. Those first few strokes hold a charm that’s purely human, and they lay the foundation for the artwork to come.

From there, I transition to my iPad, which has become a vital part of my creative toolkit. I work primarily with Procreate, an app that’s not only intuitive but also a fantastic complement to Photoshop. There’s a reason this tool has earned its place in my workflow — it’s user-friendly and versatile, making the whole creative process feel seamless. What’s even more exciting is that I don’t use the latest model of iPad or the biggest screen, but it’s still more than enough for creating high-quality artwork, even for licensing purposes. Of course, I do dream of a larger screen one day (don’t we all?), but for now, my current setup works for me!

Once the artwork is taking shape, I turn to Photoshop on my Mac to add those finishing touches. Photoshop isn’t just my go-to for perfecting the final piece; it’s also my digital workspace for managing my business. From organising files and updating my online shop to handling website content and the nitty-gritty admin tasks, my Mac is essential to running the day-to-day operations.

And while my phone doesn’t play a role in the creation of my artwork, it’s still indispensable behind the scenes. I use it to capture photos and videos for content creation, whether for social media or promotional materials. It’s a versatile tool for staying connected with my audience and documenting the progress of my work.

These tools — sketchbook, iPad, Mac and phone — are all integral to the way I bring my art to life. They allow me to blend traditional techniques with modern technology, striking a balance between the human touch and digital precision. Each tool has its role, and together, they help me navigate the creative process, from the first idea to the final piece of art.
